How does online osteo work?

In an osteo telehealth appointment, we connect via video chat and talk through your current concerns ensuring that we have a thorough understanding of your injury. We then use movement screens and postural assessments to help determine the cause of your pain.

Following your physical assessment, we discuss and implement strategies to assist you, which commonly include:

  • Mobility exercises aimed to increase your range of motion
  • Stretches to decrease muscle tightness and increase local blood flow
  • Strength-based work to address muscle imbalances and fatigue
  • Ergonomic advice to avoid reaggravation or recurrence of your injury
  • Pain management strategies to help you manage you pain

After working through your management plan with you, we follow up with a video-based rehabilitation program and summary sheet that are both delivered via email. Using an app-based program, you’ll also be able to contact your osteopath with any questions or concerns before your next review.

Do note, online osteo appointments are not currently covered by all private health insurers. Some third-party payers including Medicare via CDM plans, TAC and WorkSafe Victoria may cover the cost of a telehealth appointment.

Payments can be made online via an invoice that is emailed to you after your appointment.

Do I need special equipment or software for an online consultation?

Our Osteo Telehealth service is super simple to use, just click the link in your confirmation email to begin your session. No specific browser or downloads are required. All you need to get started is to be connected to the internet (we recommend a speed of at least 4 mbps) and a smart device (either a smartphone, tablet or computer) just ensure that you have video capabilities.

Is there anything else I need to consider before my online consultation?

Prior to your appointment please ensure you have enough space to move around, generally allow enough space to lay down if needed. We also suggest positioning you phone or laptop so that we can see you from head to toe for a more thorough postural assessment.

We’re going to get you moving in your session, wear something you can move easily in. If you have any of the following, please have them ready prior to your consultation

  • Spiky ball / tennis ball
  • Hand towel
  • Foam roller
  • Theraband
  • Broom
  • Tape measure
